What information do we collect?

We collect information from you when you subscribe to our e-newsletter or submit your first period story.

We require a first name and email address when subscribing to our newsletter. To submit your story, we require a first name, email address, nonspecific geographic residence, e.g., the state or country in which you live, and the year in which your first period occurred. The last two requirements are in order to assist us in recognizing trends in the first period experience across time and geography.

You may, however, visit all areas of our site anonymously.

What do we use your information for?

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:

• As a contribution to our ongoing oral history project. We will also select one story every few months (or so) to post on our website and feature in our e-newsletter, as our "Featured Story." We will notify you ahead of time if we would like to post your story and ask for your permission to do so. Even if voluntarily provided, we will not knowingly post the last name or resident city of anyone under the age of 18. In rare cases, we may also wish to include your story in a new print edition of My Little Red Book. If so, we will notify you via email and obtain your written permission.

• To send you our e-newsletter, should you decide to opt-in to our mailing list. The e-newsletter may include a Featured Story, information on My Little Red Book events, news, charitable causes, and related product or service information.

Note: If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email.

• To email you in response to a specific request.

Note: If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email.

This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others' rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Third party links

At our discretion, we may include links to third party products or services on our website. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

In compliance with the requirements of COPPA (Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act), we affirm the following:

• Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to submit their first period stories to our oral history project or for consideration as a Featured Story. We may collect a child’s online contact information (first name and email address only) solely to respond to a specific request from the child, after which the information provided will be immediately deleted and will not be used to re-contact the child.

• If a child signs up to receive our e-newsletter, immediately after the initial contact and before making any additional response to the child, we will make reasonable efforts to ensure that the parent receives notice and is informed of the opportunity to opt-out of further use of the information collected.

• Parents have the right, by law, to request to view all personal information collected on their children and to request that it be deleted from our records. Parents also retain the right to refuse to allow further collection or use of the child's information.

• Anyone wishing to review this information, or requesting a deletion of that information should contact the webmaster of this site via email at myfirstperiod [at] gmail [dot] com.
