That video brought make so many memories! Another quirky Indian taboo is women are not to touch pickles, as they apparently go rancid. You also need to excuse yourself from religious rituals, ‘poojas’ when they are held, and you cannot have the prasad’ (food that is blessed and then distributed).
But Modern India has progressed greatly. Tampons are available almost everywhere, (the non applicator one is more common) and restrictions really differ from family to family. These taboos aren’t that widespread now, as they were earlier (like not going to the temple..etc) – of course in most cases its – don’t ask, don’t tell.

This video is really interesting. I’m surprised the American culture doesn’t have any period taboos. Although, they did in the early days I’m guessing. Anyway, very intriguing.
There are many more stories to be told. With that in mind, I am going to post a story once a month (haha) that adds a new perspective on first periods, with some fictional and video stories thrown in along the way.
